2021 Winter Field Day

Date:
Sat 01-30 2:00pm - Sun 01-31 2:00pm
Description:

Winter Field Day Association
Winter Field Day Association (WFDA) is a dedicated group of Amateur Radio Operators who believe that emergency communications in a winter environment is just as important as the preparations and practice that is done each summer but with some additional unique operational concerns.

We believe as do those entities of ARRL Organizations like ARES & RACES that maintaining your operational skills should not be limited to fair weather scenarios. The addition of Winter Field Day will enhance those already important skills of those that who generously volunteer their time and equipment to these organizations. This is why WFD is open to all licensed amateur radio operators worldwide.

HAM RADIO SUPPORT

Normally there would be two operators per aid station plus one to shadow the organizer. Because it is a long day we would have a morning and afternoon shift. Therefore, it would be good to have about 20 operators.

Friday afternoon establish a station at the start finish l line at theHorseman's Campground with a vertical antenna attached to a 10 ft PVC pipe inserted over a “T” post. Equipment to be provided by the Owen County ARES group. This will allow coverage of the area on simplex FM.

Saturday morning, first shift amateur radio volunteers report to the start finish line for assignment to aid stations. In addition, one operator will be assigned to “shadow” the race organizer.

About 1 PM the afternoon shift of amateur radio operators report to the start finish to relieve the morning operators at aid stations.

Amateur radio activities would consist of the following:
Provide any requested communications for the aid station volunteers such as runner numbers or location of runners. Of most interest is the location of the first male and female runners and the last runner on the course.

Should there be an operator what would like to “walk the course” behind the last runners that would enable the organizers to know the location of the last runners and thus when the aid stations could shut down.
