Normally there would be two operators per aid station plus one to shadow the organizer. Because it is a long day we would have a morning and afternoon shift. Therefore, it would be good to have about 20 operators.

Friday afternoon establish a station at the start finish l line at the Horseman's Campground with a vertical antenna attached to a 10 ft PVC pipe inserted over a “T” post. Equipment to be provided by the Owen County ARES group. This will allow coverage of the area on simplex FM.

Saturday morning, first shift amateur radio volunteers report to the start finish line for assignment to aid stations. In addition, one operator will be assigned to “shadow” the race organizer.

About 1 PM the afternoon shift of amateur radio operators report to the start finish to relieve the morning operators at aid stations.

Amateur radio activities would consist of the following:
Provide any requested communications for the aid station volunteers such as runner numbers or location of runners. Of most interest is the location of the first male and female runners and the last runner on the course.

Should there be an operator what would like to “walk the course” behind the last runners that would enable the organizers to know the location of the last runners and thus when the aid stations could shut down.
